Welcome to the photographic precis of our saunters around local Nature Reserves and other places of interest
It is difficult to tire of these Nature Reserves, the delight of seeing old friends like Cowslips bursting into bloom or the first Damselflies of the year emerging. Occasionally we spot something new to us, whether rare or common place it is great to research the species and learn something about them.
I started out just enjoying the visual feast of Dragonflies and Damselflies in the summer but now find myself drawn towards the world of Shieldbugs, Beetles, Butterflies and Hoverflies. Insects I never gave a passing glance to in the past can lead intriguing lives I now find fascinating
In short, Nature Reserves are fabulous, get out there and enjoy!

Having an hour or so to spare on a windy but pleasant morning I took a quick stroll around Storton's Pits. The Nature Reserve is next to busy industrial estates, clanging, banging and birdsong!
You can see the old lift tower from almost every point of the Nature Reserve
A lovely sunny day in early April and my Mum fancied a little walk at Glapthorn Cow Pastures. We didn't have too long a walk but it was really quite delightful with blossom on the trees and hedges and plenty of buzzing insects
A sunny day was chose for our second walk of the year around Stonepit Close at Old Sulehay. A few weeks makes quite a differnce in the spring
There are lots of different habitats at Stonepit Close, I do enjoy the rocky ground though
