Welcome to the photographic precis of our saunters around local Nature Reserves and other places of interest
It is difficult to tire of these Nature Reserves, the delight of seeing old friends like Cowslips bursting into bloom or the first Damselflies of the year emerging. Occasionally we spot something new to us, whether rare or common place it is great to research the species and learn something about them.
I started out just enjoying the visual feast of Dragonflies and Damselflies in the summer but now find myself drawn towards the world of Shieldbugs, Beetles, Butterflies and Hoverflies. Insects I never gave a passing glance to in the past can lead intriguing lives I now find fascinating
In short, Nature Reserves are fabulous, get out there and enjoy!

March seems to be a busy month in the garden, and yellow, a lot of the flowers in our garden seem to be yellow, Cowslips, Dandelions etc
We planted three or four Cowslips in the front garden a few years ago, since then they have multiplied and have now taken over a sizeable chunk of the front lawn!
We decided to enjoy a walk around Summer Leys Nature Reserve as the weather was supposed to be mild and sunny. We did feel a little diddled since we didn't actually see the sun, it was concealed by a fine layer of cloud. The walk was very pleasant though
A slightly different look Catkin to the more usual fluffy ones, some sort of Willow we think
A mild and sunny day saw us take our first trip of the year to Old Sulehay Nature Reserve. We particularly wanted to potter around the old quarry - Stonepit Close as the terrain is quite unusual for this area
Common Primrose could be seen in large numbers in some areas of the reserve
